The EIB University Research Sponsorship (EIBURS) programme provides grants to help EU universities and academic research centres to develop activities in selected research areas in addition to those that would normally be carried out by the beneficiary and on topics of major interest to the EIB Group (EIB<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0EIF<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The European Investment Bank has decided to channel most of its institutional relations with universities through an EIB-Universities Research Initiative<\/em> made up of three different programmes:<\/p>\n

1. EIBURS<\/strong> (EIB University Research Sponsorship<\/em>), a program that will grant non-reimbursable grants to university research centers dedicated to specialties and topics of priority interest to the Bank.<\/p>\n

The EIB grants, of up to EUR 100,000 per year for a period of three years, will be awarded through a competitive procedure to university research departments or research centers linked to universities (from EU Member States, acceding countries or acceding countries) with well-established expertise in areas of direct interest to the Bank, in order to enable them to develop their activities in those areas.<\/p>\n

For the 2021\/2022 academic year, the EIBURS program has selected four lines of research: Clean technologies in European industry, the EU Green Deal, the future of schooling: harnessing the potential of digital educational technology and capital needs of SMEs<\/em>.<\/p>\n

2. STAREBEI<\/strong> (STAges de REcherche BEI<\/em>), a program aimed at financing young researchers dedicated to joint EIB-University projects. The STAREBEI program will promote the common interests of university centers and EIB services by funding training stages for junior researchers interested in carrying out research projects proposed by the Bank under the joint supervision of a university tutor and an EIB tutor.<\/p>\n

3. EIB University Networks<\/strong>, a mechanism designed to sponsor university networks that have characteristics that are particularly suitable for pursuing the objectives of the EIB Group. These networks must be cooperative associations oriented towards educational, research and development activities with a specific purpose. They will be used by the EIB as preferred vehicles to publicize the other two programs and to provide information on other research requests made by the Bank's services. In appropriate cases, such networks will be entitled to use the BEI brand in their promotion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Who can submit proposals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. EIBURS (EIB University Research Sponsorship)<\/strong>
\nUniversity departments and Research Centers of universities belonging to a member country with solid prestige in the indicated area of work. The application form can be downloaded from the EIB website and will be used in French or English. The activities may cover a maximum period of three years.<\/p>\n

2. STAREBEI (STAges de Recherche BEI)<\/strong>
\nThis line is open to any European university that carries out doctoral programs recognized by the Bologna Process. It involves support for university researchers for a period that varies from six to twelve months.<\/p>\n

3. EIB University Networks<\/strong><\/p>\n

University networks that have been active for more than three years may submit their candidacy. A special section is included for financing the activities of Femise<\/em> (Europe-Mediterranean Network of Economics Institutes) as a result of the cooperation agreement signed between said network and the EIB in March 2006.<\/p>\n

The EIB also finances specific activities of universities that have a major community interest through the fund managed by the Bank's Subsidies Committee. There is also a scholarship program aimed at financing stays at the bank for students in the last years of their degree.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
