aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)<\/strong>\u00a0provides funding to public and private bodies in all EU regions to reduce economic, social and territorial disparities. The Fund supports investments through dedicated national or regional programmes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021-2027, the fund will enable investments to make Europe and its regions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>more competitive and smarter, through innovation and support to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), as well as digitisation and digital connectivity<\/li>\n<li>greener, low-carbon and resilient<\/li>\n<li>more connected\u00a0by enhancing mobility<\/li>\n<li>more social, supporting effective and inclusive employment, education, skills, social inclusion and equal access to healthcare, as well as enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism<\/li>\n<li>closer to citizens, supporting locally-led development and sustainable urban development across the EU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ERDF is delivered under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/find-funding\/funding-management-mode_en\">shared management<\/a>. Local authorities call for projects adapted to their specific needs. It is governed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/find-funding\/funding-management-mode\/common-provisions-regulation_en\">Common Provisions Regulation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interreg<\/strong> is the Union\u2019s instrument to support\u00a0cooperation across regions and countries: a new generation of Interreg programmes in and outside the EU will further develop joint services and strengthen solidarity. Interreg provides funding for projects between Member States, their outermost regions, the EU acceding countries and the neighbourhood countries. Therefore, in 2021-2027, Interreg will continue to support\u00a0cross-border mobility, and efforts to develop\u00a0environmental protection,\u00a0emergency services,\u00a0skilled jobs\u00a0and access to\u00a0public services\u00a0for the next EU generation.<\/p>\n<p>Interreg has an impact on citizens\u2019 lives at different levels. It encompasses cross-border cooperation along all EU land and maritime borders; transnational cooperation, including macro-regional strategies and sea basins; and interregional cooperation, which builds networks and lets leading regions share their successes and experience with other territories.<\/p>\n<p>In addition,\u00a0Interreg projects beyond EU borders\u00a0cover several areas in the world:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Interreg NEXT<\/em>, which involves Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood partner countries;<\/li>\n<li><em>Interreg Outermost Regions<\/em>, which deepens relations between the EU\u2019s remote regions and their neighbourhoods;<\/li>\n<li><em>Interreg IPA<\/em>, which fosters cooperation of Member States with Western Balkan countries and Turkey and helps acceding countries to alleviate border obstacles and manage prorgammes in the same way as Member States are doing. Cooperation of this kind bolsters the countries\u2019 capacities to improve people\u2019s lives and builds trust with neighbouring territories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<footer class=\"article-footer\"><\/footer>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div>\n<p>The ERDF finances: direct aid for investments made in companies (particularly SMEs) to create sustainable jobs; infrastructures linked especially to research and innovation, telecommunications, the environment, energy and transport; financial instruments (venture capital funds, local development funds\u2026) to support regional and local development and encourage cooperation between cities and regions; and \u00a0technical assistance measures.<\/p>\n<p>The ERDF can intervene in the three new objectives of regional policy:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Convergence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the regions of the Convergence objective, the ERDF concentrates its intervention on the modernization and diversification of economic structures as well as the safeguarding or creation of sustainable jobs, with actions in the following <em>areas<\/em>: \u00a0research and technological development (RTD), \u00a0innovation and entrepreneurship; society of Information; \u00a0environment; risks prevention; \u00a0sightseeing;\u00a0culture; \u00a0transports; Energy; \u00a0education; and\u00a0Health.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Regional competitiveness and employment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Innovation and knowledge economy: strengthening of regional capacities for research and technological development, stimulation of innovation and entrepreneurship and strengthening of financial engineering, especially for companies linked to the knowledge economy;<br \/>\n\u2013 environment and risk prevention: remediation of contaminated land, promotion of energy efficiency, promotion of clean urban public transport and development of plans to prevent and manage natural and technological risks;<br \/>\n\u2013 access to transport and telecommunications services of general economic interest.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>European territorial cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Development of cross-border economic and social activities;<br \/>\n\u2013 establishment and development of transnational cooperation, including bilateral cooperation between maritime regions;<br \/>\n\u2013 Strengthening the effectiveness of regional policy through interregional promotion and cooperation, networking and exchange of experiences between regional and local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The ERDF also gives particular attention to <strong>specific territorial characteristics<\/strong>. ERDF action is designed to reduce economic, environmental and social problems in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/regional_policy\/en\/policy\/themes\/urban-development\/\">urban areas<\/a>, with a special focus on sustainable urban development. At least 8 % of the ERDF resources are set aside for this field through territorial or local development strategies, i.e. Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI), Community-led Local Development (CLLD) but also tools supporting similar initiatives designed by Member States.<\/p>\n<p>Areas that are naturally disadvantaged from a geographical viewpoint (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/regional_policy\/en\/policy\/themes\/sparsely-populated-areas\/\">remote, islands, mountainous or sparsely populated areas<\/a>) benefit from special treatment and Member States can set out integrated approaches and dedicate funds to these areas.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/regional_policy\/en\/policy\/themes\/outermost-regions\/\">outermost regions<\/a>\u00a0of the EU also benefit from specific assistance from the ERDF to address disadvantages due to their remoteness.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ecl-site-header-standardised__banner\">\n<div class=\"ecl-container\">\n<div class=\"ecl-site-header-standardised__site-name\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"informacion-general\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane active orange\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-informacion-general\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div id=\"contacto\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-contacto\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<section class=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"rl_tabs nn_tabs outline_handles outline_content top align_left has_effects\" role=\"presentation\">\n<div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"procedimiento\" class=\"tab-pane rl_tabs-pane nn_tabs-pane orange active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"tab-procedimiento\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) (2021-2027) aims to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion in the European Union by correcting imbalances between its regions.
