It is also in the EU's socio-economic interest to guarantee the availability of food supplies, the competitiveness of the maritime economy and the livelihood of coastal communities.<\/p>\n<p>The fund helps achieve sustainable fisheries and conserve marine biological resources. This leads to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>food security through the supply of seafood products<\/li>\n<li>growth of a sustainable blue economy<\/li>\n<li>healthy, safe and sustainably managed seas and oceans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also helps achieve the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/oceans\/\">UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goal 14<\/a>\u00a0(\u2018<em>conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources<\/em>\u2019), to which the EU is committed. Furthermore, the EMFAF helps fulfil the objectives of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/strategy\/priorities-2019-2024\/european-green-deal_en\">European Green Deal<\/a>, the roadmap for the EU climate and environmental policies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ecl-u-mb-2xl\">\n<p>The <strong>EMFAF<\/strong> supports innovative projects that contribute to the sustainable exploitation and management of aquatic and maritime resources.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ecl\">\n<p>In particular, it facilitates<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the transition to sustainable and low-carbon fishing<\/li>\n<li>the protection of marine biodiversity and ecosystems<\/li>\n<li>the supply of quality and healthy seafood to European consumers<\/li>\n<li>the socio-economic attractiveness and the generational renewal of the fishing sector, in particular as regards small-scale coastal fisheries<\/li>\n<li>the development of a sustainable and competitive aquaculture contributing to food security<\/li>\n<li>the improvement of skills and working conditions in the fishing and aquaculture sectors<\/li>\n<li>the economic and social vitality of coastal communities<\/li>\n<li>innovation in the sustainable blue economy<\/li>\n<li>maritime security towards a safe maritime space<\/li>\n<li>international cooperation towards healthy, safe and sustainably managed oceans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme management is divided between shared management and direct management.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ecl-u-mb-2xl\">\n<div class=\"ecl\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>shared management<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u20ac5.311 billion<\/strong>\u00a0is provided through national programmes co-financed by the EU budget and EU countries, for which the\u00a0Common Provision Regulation 2021-2027 is applicable,<\/li>\n<li><strong>direct management<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013<strong>\u00a0\u20ac797 million<\/strong> is provided directly by the Commission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Under shared management, each country receives the same percentage of the fund\u2019s budget as during the previous period, 2014-2020. The total budget for 2021-2027 is \u20ac6.108 billion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ecl-u-mb-2xl\">\n<div class=\"ecl\">\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To see if your project is eligible for EMFAF support, first check with the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/oceans-and-fisheries\/system\/files\/2022-05\/national_authorities.pdf\">national authority<\/a> in charge of managing the operational programme in your country.
