The Commission today opened the call for applications for the 8th edition of Youth4Regions, a programme for aspiring journalists. The programme offers journalism students and young journalists a week-long traineeship in Brussels in October 2024, during which the selected candidates will attend training sessions, receive mentoring from and work with more experienced journalists in the newsroom, and visit different EU institutions and media organisations.
Applications are accepted in three categories (general journalism, photojournalism and video) and can be submitted by journalism students and young journalists from EU Member States, neighbouring countries and accession countries. Those selected will also be considered for the prestigious Megalizzi - Niedzielski Prize, to be awarded on 9 October 2024, which recognises outstanding work by young journalists.
Youth4Regions is the Commission's flagship initiative to foster the careers of student journalists and young journalists by offering direct exposure to the EU. Since its inception in 2017, more than 210 people from across Europe have completed the programme, which offers enriching experiences and valuable insights.
