The European Commission has opened the application window for a new round of DiscoverEU. 18-year-olds can apply, until 15 October, for the chance to receive a travel voucher and discover Europe by train. A total of nearly 41,000 travel vouchers will be made available to young people born between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2008. Applications are open to candidates from the European Union and from countries associated with the Erasmus+ programme, namely Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.
For this round, as part of the ‘Compass for Culture in Europe’ initiative, DiscoverEU will strengthen its cultural dimension by launching a new DiscoverEU route dedicated to European Heritage Label sites, which embody and symbolise European history, integration, ideals and values.
Winners will be able to travel for up to 30 days between March 2027 and May 2028 and will also have access to the DiscoverEU European Youth Card, which includes discounts on cultural and educational activities, transport, accommodation, dining, sport and other services in the participating countries. Furthermore, for the first time, the 250 highest-ranked applicants from all programme countries will receive one free night’s accommodation in a youth hostel.
