It is a project supported by Interreg MED, a transnational European cooperation program for regions of the Mediterranean area that addresses challenges such as the growth of the low-carbon economy, the protection of natural and cultural resources, and the strengthening of innovation.
LOCAL4GREEN PLUS is based on the experience of the “LOCAL4GREEN – Local Policies for Green Energy” project that was carried out from November 2016 to October 2019, with the aim of supporting local authorities in the design and implementation of local fiscal policies directed to promote renewable energy sources, both in the public and private sectors and homes, mainly within the framework of the Action Plans for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) adopted by the local authorities adhering to the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and the Energy.
The objective of LOCAL4GREEN PLUS is to promote green fiscal policies to increase the share of renewable energy in rural areas and Mediterranean islands.
The Project will support local authorities to implement innovative local fiscal policies, aimed at promoting renewable energy sources, through the adaptation of the green fiscal policy models described in the "International Manual of Green Local Fiscal Policies" generated by LOCAL4GREEN . This process will be carried out through training and technical support activities for local authorities.
Priority will be given to local entities adhering to the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in order to contribute to meeting their climate change mitigation objectives set out in their PACES. The pilot municipalities of the Valencian Community that have joined the project are: Altea, Quart de Poblet, Pedreguer, Albalat dels Sorells, Burjassot, Denia, Meliana, Monforte del Cid, Elda and Rafelguaraf.
Green fiscal policies will motivate the involvement of the private sector in renewable energies and will be a lever to modify the behavior and investment preferences of taxpayers, increasing the share of local renewable energy sources.
